Working with clay fine plaster
Clay fine plaster is applied as a finish. It is usually applied to a clay base coat or clay building boards. The surface can be smoothed or sponged. The material can also be used in closed plastering machines, e.g. G4 or G5.
Painting fine plaster
Once the fine plaster has been consolidated with a rubbing board, it can be left natural or painted with clay paint. There are no grains of sand on a rubbed surface that can be wiped off by hand. In its natural state, the straw content of the fine plaster is shown to its best advantage.
If the surface is sponged, i.e. there are grains of sand on the surface, a casein primer should always be applied. Otherwise, the fine plaster will come loose during painting, resulting in an unclean finish. The casein primer is colourless and hardly affects the moisture absorption of clay.
Rubbed surfaces can be painted directly and sponged surfaces must be primed beforehand.
