The Institut für Baubiologie und Nachhaltigkeit (IBN) in Neubeuern has made it its mission not only to work and advise in line with building-biology principles, but also to expand and pass on specialist knowledge. To this end, it has been promoting building-biology research, thinking and practice since the 1960s. The distance-learning course in building biology, which has been run since 1977 and is designed to be studied alongside work, looks at people's immediate living environment in a very comprehensive, holistic way. The focus is not only on people's own four walls, but also on the open spaces around them, such as the garden or even public space.

IBN's 4 pillars for work

In terms of content, the IBN's work is based on four major subject areas:

1. Measurement technology (measuring and assessing mould, electromagnetic fields and pollutants)
2. Building-biology interior design (effects of different interior designs)
3. Building and energy consultancy (spatial concepts with low energy and material input)
4. Training as a building biologist

In addition to this course of study, the IBN also offers seminars in which fully trained building biologists continue their professional development or interested people receive training in building biology. For forty years they published a magazine, Wohnung+Gesundheit, in which fascinating building biology topics were discussed and projects presented. The content has since been incorporated in digital form into the Baubiologie-Magazin, which is accessible online.
