Processing Conluto clay base plaster
Base plaster is always used where a thick layer of clay needs to be applied.
Wall heating systems are usually covered with a minimum total thickness of 3 cm of clay. This is where a base plaster comes in handy. Crooked walls, as are common in older buildings, can be made almost straight again using a base plaster. It is helpful here that the base plaster can be applied 3 cm thick in a single pass.
Particularly with such thick layers of clay, care should be taken to ensure rapid drying so that white mould cannot form.
The earth-moist clay base plaster is mixed directly with chopped straw. As a result, its shelf life is slightly shorter. The base plaster should be used up within 2 years. The straw may start to compost slightly, but the clay is still usable.
