Hemp joint sealant
Hemp caulking tape is a purely ecological sealing cord for sealing joints and gaps. It can be used between wood and masonry or in half-timbered structures between compartments and beams. Hemp has the property of being able to expand and compress very well. This compensates for material movements in the building materials and ensures that the joint remains permanently insulated.
When tightly packed, hemp has a very high flow resistance, resulting in a virtually airtight but capillary-conductive and diffusion-open joint. The masonry joint or window connection sealed with hemp can then be plastered with lime plaster or clay plaster. To do this, the sides must be coated with hemp-clay paste and the joint seal must be tightly packed.
When planning, it is important to take the joint into account. It must be possible to fill the joint using a jointing iron, a spatula or a narrow wooden wedge. The minimum thickness should therefore be 5 mm. For joints over 15 mm, caulking fibre is recommended. This is also made of hemp and is slightly coarser. To install, the hemp sealing cord is pressed into the joint using a stuffing tool.
It takes only about 15 minutes to fill a normal-sized window with an easily accessible joint.
A 10 kg box contains about 300 running metres; once installed, you should calculate 200 kg/m³ of insulation material.
Für Fugen über 50 mm kann man nicht die Hanfdämmwolle verwenden, stattdessen kann man hier den Stopfhanf verwenden
