Loose fibre fill for insulating the top-floor ceiling
Fibre hemp is used for insulating the top-floor ceiling and for insulating cold roofs, attic spaces or flat roofs and other horizontal insulation applications. Compared with stuffing hemp, the loose fibre fill is somewhat finer and therefore does not mat together as well.
Working with fibre hemp
Installing the loose-fill fibre insulation is very quick and efficient. The insulation material is spread over the top-floor ceiling with a rake. The loose-fill fibre is not walkable. If you want a walkable floor, you should always install a substructure and a finish of rough-sawn timber boarding or tongue-and-groove boards. Walkable insulation of the top-floor ceiling is not as durable and stable as one might assume. Loose-fill hemp is the perfect insulation material if you want to insulate a cold roof. With a cold roof, the roof space remains cold and the top-floor ceiling is insulated against heat loss and summer heat gain. When insulating the top-floor ceiling, the hemp fibre can be installed very quickly. The raw material of the hemp fibre is the hemp plant.
Advantages of hemp
No chemical substances whatsoever are required in cultivation or processing. Hemp insulation is therefore always free from pesticide residues and any artificial additives. The mechanical properties of hemp are entirely sufficient to produce a high-quality building material that meets building-biology principles .
