Mixing pigments for wall paints and plasters
Mixing Kreidezeit pigments is just as easy as working with tinting pastes. To make sure your colour is even and free of lumps, first make the pigments into a paste with water before stirring them in.
Why pigments instead of ready-mixed paint?
- All pigments can be mixed with one another as desired
- Can be stored indefinitely – entirely without preservatives or additives
- Alkali-resistant, making it suitable for lime and clay substrates
- Genuine earth pigments instead of synthetic dyes
Tip on water: Soft water wets the pigments better. If your tap water is very hard, use rainwater, demineralised water or filtered water (e.g. from a Brita filter) instead.
How to proceed step by step
- Weigh the pigments – use the quantity from your personal mixing recipe.
- Add water – about half the weight of the pigment, i.e. approx. 500 ml of water per 1 kg of pigment.
- Mix the pigments – stir with a stirring stick or hand mixer until free of lumps.
- Stir again along the bottom of the tub – until a smooth, homogeneous mix forms.
- Add the pigment mixture to the paint.
- Stir in thoroughly – for an even distribution of colour.
- Apply the paint and leave it to dry.
- Allow it to lighten as it dries – Kreidezeit paints lighten noticeably as they dry; this is normal and has been allowed for.
With powder products, you can either mix the powder without pigment first and then add the finished pigment mixture, or add the pre-mixed pigment paste directly to the mixing water.
