Modernising Lower Saxony's building culture
In this project, 7 historic buildings from the architectural heritage of Lower Saxony dating from the 16th - 17th century were modernised.
We partly refinished the old clay ceilings in the natural shade using Conluto clay finishing plaster. On the wall surfaces, we repaired some of the plaster, gave some walls a complete sponge finish with clay finishing plaster, and as a final coat we painted the walls with Conluto clay paint in clay white. This allowed us to make the rather small rooms brighter while the
character was preserved.
To suit the half-timbered houses with their many old oak beams, we laid rustic oak floorboards with an oiled finish.
The bathrooms were fitted with new fixtures, and we refinished the tiles there with FUTADO.
In the cathedral, we skimmed the walls with clay filler and reinforcing mesh and applied the clay smooth finish in the shade Bilbao as the final coat, thus combining the old with the new. This gives the room a special charm.
The restaurant was given a new coat of white silicate paint. There we also had to deal with the room acoustics and installed ceiling baffles. In the restaurant's washrooms, we recreated a historic trough as a washbasin using Wedi boards and FUTADO.
In the bar area, too, we had a good idea and created a GRANDEZZA rust effect by Volimea. This authentic metal look was thus able to tie the new stainless steel surfaces in with the old timber beams and stone floor.
On the other hand, to round things off and create a homely feel, we used photo wallpapers with various nature motifs on some walls.
We completed the project in 2021, but it's not over yet: probably in 2024 a new building is planned, which is to be built using old beams and old bricks.
I'm really looking forward to it.
