More and more people are discovering the pleasures of food prepared in its original way. A rustic oven for baking and cooking can contribute to this – without electricity or gas.
This book shows in detail, with many photos and drawings, how to build your own bread oven from clay, stone, wood and straw – in other words, from materials that are available everywhere and do not cost much. The individual construction steps are described in detail, as are the first firing and important accessories for baking in good company, whether in the garden, on a covered terrace or indoors.
Numerous photos show the wide variety of shapes of self-built bread ovens and provide inspiration for your own ideas. Also covered: what do traditional bread ovens look like in other countries, and what is prepared in them there?
The authors Jana Spitzer, landscape conservationist and environmental educator, and Reiner Dittrich, building construction technician and master electrician, have been employed for many years by the Sächsische Landesstiftung Natur und Umwelt in Bad Schandau. Through their affinity with nature and their understanding of and interest in building with natural building materials, both have gained experience in building dry stone walls over a number of years.
