This book by Ulrich Pfammater is a real tome. At almost 3 cm thick in DIN A 4 format, its outward appearance alone suggests the author's in-depth knowledge.

The book is truly so full of information that it is hard to put it down again. Time and again I open it at a random page and am fascinated by the wealth of ideas. By now every schoolchild knows that climate change is a global problem. Unfortunately, not everyone yet knows that something should therefore be done about it worldwide.

For each topic, the book presents examples from a wide range of countries around the globe and across all social strata: building in harmony with nature, building culture, construction methods and adaptation strategies. With 333 annotated case studies and around 1800 illustrations, the book reveals a wide variety of planning and architectural options for responding to continual cultural and climate change with forward-looking strategies and developments.

From ancient cultures and cultural techniques to exemplary contemporary buildings and concepts to visionary approaches, the range of projects shows how current challenges can be met in innovative and varied ways. It is aimed at everyone involved in building: architecture and engineering, urbanism and site development, heritage conservation and more.
The energy issue is integrated into broader approaches to building culture, with the question of resources in new interventions and transformations, as well as adaptation scenarios for changing conditions, treated as central themes.
