Conluto clay paint
The atmospheric colours of real clay paints and clay plasters conjure up the flair of entire landscapes in your rooms. Conluto clay surface finishes are authentic and of high quality. The natural colours consist of sands and clays that are naturally present in the earth.
Real clay paint with a high clay content for the surface finish of a clay wall. Also possible on all other substrates.
Characteristics:
- Forms a cloth-matt surface and offers good filling properties on all absorbent interior substrates
conluto clay colour can be rolled, painted and sprayed
- Depending on the substrate, the consumption is approx. 70 - 130 g/m² (for highly absorbent substrates, the highest consumption specified here should be used)
- The range of a 5 kg bucket is approx. 40 to 70 m². Consumption depends on the substrate:
On smooth substrates, the range is around 70 m², on rough sponged clay plaster, the range of the clay paint is around 40 m². - Conluto clay colour comes as powder in a bucket
Maintain open porosity
The open porosity of a natural clay plaster wall is changed by any colour coating; casein primer and clay paint in combination are still highly permeable and only minimally change the properties of the clay.

Application of Conluto clay paint
We recommend the casein primer as a primer. This ensures that the substrate is homogeneously absorbent and increases the coverage of the paint. The paint dries out quickly on clay plaster and streaking can occur as the transitions no longer run together and can dry together - a casein primer equalises the substrate here and reduces the absorbency of the wall to such an extent that the paint can be spread more easily.
Plaster or paint
All clay colours can be refined with the Conluto brush-on plaster additive to create a grainy coating that adds texture to the walls. The mother-of-pearl sand it contains give the plaster a soft lustre. Clay paint is also applied crosswise with a ceiling brush.

Pigments in clay paint
The Herculanum, Dew Blue and Shell colours contain small amounts of pure ultramarine blue pigment. All other colours are without the addition of artificial pigments.
It is still possible to change the clay colour by adding a maximum of 8 % pigment and to adapt it to your individual requirements.
