conluto clay adhesive and reinforcing mortar is a versatile clay adhesive for eco-friendly drywall, insulation and rendering systems. It performs several functions in panel and render applications: it bonds insulation boards and clay building boards, fills joints and fixing points, embeds reinforcement mesh and, when applied with a notched trowel, creates a non-slip bonding layer for subsequent clay renders.
The clay-based formula, containing plant fibres, cellulose and plant starch, creates a firm, durable surface even when applied in thin layers. Ideal for securely bonding and reinforcing panel surfaces and preparing them for further wall construction.
Assembly, finishing and drying
When working with clay panels the installation process begins by filling the joints, screw holes and fastening plates with filler. Only once it has dried completely should the clay adhesive and reinforcement mortar be applied over the entire surface using a notched trowel. In this fresh layer a reinforcing mesh is embedded with a 10 cm joint overlap and completely covered with filler. This creates a continuous, load-bearing surface for the subsequent application of clay plaster.
When working with softwood fibreboards mortar is mainly used for comb-troweling. It creates a strong bond for the subsequent plaster layers. Depending on the system, the reinforcement mesh is embedded in the first layer of plaster.

If applied more thinly, the amount of material required is reduced accordingly. For uneven substrates or walls in older buildings, a small margin of material should be allowed for.

Yes, conluto clay adhesive mortar can be used on load-bearing clay plaster. The surface must be dry, clean, sound and free from loose particles. It is particularly suitable for use when existing clay plaster needs to be reinforced, stabilised or prepared for further layers within the conluto system.
