Processing Conluto clay undercoat plaster
Undercoat is always used where a thick layer of clay needs to be applied.
Wall heating systems are usually covered with a minimum total thickness of 3 cm of clay. This is where an undercoat comes in handy. Crooked walls, as are common in older buildings, can be made almost straight again using an undercoat. It is helpful here that the undercoat can be applied 3 cm thick in a single pass.
Particularly with such thick layers of clay, care should be taken to ensure rapid drying so that white mould cannot form.
The earth-moist clay skim coat is mixed directly with chopped straw. As a result, its shelf life is slightly shorter. The skim coat should be used up within 2 years. The straw may start to compost slightly, but the clay is still usable.
