Handmade clay wraps

Traditional clay-straw rolls, new, handmade

Handmade clay-straw rolls made of straw and clay. These clay rolls, also known as straw rolls or wound staves, are installed in intermediate floors or timber-frame walls.

Clay rolls are one of the oldest clay building techniques. The old principle still works perfectly today and is used in both existing buildings and new builds. The coating has a high mass; the clay built into the house stores heat and cold. The coating absorbs sound and contributes to a balanced indoor climate.

The clay rolls are handmade in various lengths according to traditional patterns. After coating, the staves are pre-dried by the wind alone. Custom sizes are of course possible.

They are made with great care in a small family business.

The diameter varies between 12 and 14 cm.

Clay rolls are the best plaster base and are as much a part of a timber-frame house as the timber beam itself.
