fine aggregate for clay plaster
Fine hemp shives as a lightweight aggregate for clay plaster. Coarse and fine hemp shives are used to mix your own thermally insulating clay. The coarse and fine hemp shives have a rough surface and a high moisture absorption capacity, and are structurally very stable. To mix a lightweight clay, a blend of fine and coarse hemp shives is used with the clay powder as the binder. Of course, "normal" clay plaster can also be used as the binder.
The thermal insulation performance depends on the specific weight of the light clay mixture produced. Light clay mixtures are used in cavities, e.g. behind "permanent formwork" or a wall built in front from light clay blocks. A reed mat plaster base fixed to vertical squared timbers can also be used as "permanent formwork".
Here, the thickness of the squared timbers determines the insulation thickness. As with any light clay, thorough drying is absolutely essential.
Also ideal as an aggregate for clay plaster – clay plaster tempered with hemp plaster shives is ideally suited for use with a plastering machine. Only small quantities of plaster shives need to be added to the mix. Compared with chopped straw, you need no more than 1/5 of the corresponding quantity.
