Coarse aggregate for clay plaster
Coarse hemp shives as a lightweight aggregate for clay plaster. Coarse and fine hemp shives are used to mix your own insulating clay. The coarse and fine hemp shives have a rough surface, a high moisture absorption capacity and a very stable fibre structure. To mix a light clay, a blend of fine and coarse hemp shives is used with clay powder as the binder. Of course, "normal" clay plaster can also be used as the binder. The thermal insulation properties depend on the specific weight of the light clay mix produced. Light clay mixes are used in cavities, e.g. behind "permanent formwork" or a wall built in front from light clay blocks. A reed plaster base fixed to vertical squared timbers can also be used as "permanent formwork". Here, the thickness of the squared timbers determines the insulation thickness.
As with any light clay, thorough drying is absolutely essential.
