Hemp shiv – plant-based & versatile
Our hemp shives are a true all-rounder: plant-based, untreated and versatile in use.
They are obtained from the woody core of the hemp plant, gently chopped and graded to a particle size of 2–25 mm. With their bulk density of approx. 100 kg/m³, they are particularly lightweight and pleasant to work with.
Ideally suited to building with natural materials, for light clay, hemp-lime insulation or as a levelling layer in the IsoHemp system.
And best of all: hemp is a fast-growing renewable raw material that stores CO₂ as it grows.

In combination with Saint-Astier® BATICHANVRE® PLUS or IsoHemp proKalk, the result is a particularly vapour-permeable building material – ideal for:

Batichanvre Plus
BATICHANVRE® PLUS from Saint-Astier®
is a lime-based binder developed specifically for use with hemp. Combined with hemp shiv, it produces a vapour-permeable insulation material, ideal for anyone who wants to build or renovate with bio-based and mineral building materials and with foresight.
IsoHemp ProKalk
ProKalk is a specially developed binder for producing hemp-lime. It consists of hydraulic lime and air lime. It is a ready-to-use product that lets you prepare mixes on site, avoiding the risk of incorrect dosing.
Great in the garden too: hemp shiv as mulch
Hemp shiv is not only perfect for building, it also does a great job as mulch.
It protects plants from frost in winter and from drying out in summer, suppresses weed growth and promotes active soil life.
