Wooden float for working clay plaster or lime plaster. The float is made of a waterproof-bonded multi-layer wooden board and a wooden handle.

A wooden float is used to float clay plaster or lime plaster. Floating compacts the plaster. This makes the clay plaster or lime plaster firmer, as the entire plaster thickness is worked once more so that the structure of the plaster is compacted. This provides stability and surface strength.

Floats always produce some abrasion as a result of the floating. With plastic floats, this is of course plastic abrasion, which ends up on the plaster or is worked into it. With wooden floats, it is wood. However, wooden floats are also somewhat heavier than plastic floats. Well worn-in wooden floats glide so smoothly, though, that you don't notice the extra weight.
