Butcher block oil

KREIDEZEIT Worktop Oil is a deep-penetrating, hard-wearing and solvent-free surface protection for worktops, tables and furniture made from almost all types of wood – especially for kitchen and dining areas and for wooden chopping boards.

It has been tested in accordance with LFGB §31 and is suitable for food contact, as well as resistant to saliva and perspiration in accordance with DIN 53160. For the initial treatment of untreated wood and for routine maintenance. Can be tinted with KREIDEZEIT earth and mineral pigments.

Geeignete Untergründe

Untreated or previously oiled wooden worktops, tables, furniture and chopping boards. Not on varnished surfaces. For tannin-rich woods (oak), thin the first coat with approx. 10 % gum turpentine.

Anwendung & Verarbeitung

Preparation: Clean the wood and remove dust; initial sanding with P 80–120 grit (no finer, otherwise the wood will absorb too little oil). Shake the container before use and apply undiluted (for dense or tannin-rich woods, dilute the 1st coat with approx. 10 % balsamic turpentine oil).

1st coat: Apply thinly and evenly, leave to soak in for 10–20 minutes, then remove all oil that has not been absorbed with a lint-free cloth until the surface has an even silk-matt finish.

Intermediate sanding: Only if the surface has dried rough (grit P 100–120 in the direction of the grain), then remove the dust.

2nd coat: As for the first coat.

Tools & cleaning: Varnish brushes, wide wall brushes, cotton cloths, short-pile rollers. Clean tools immediately with gum turpentine, then with Oliven Pflegeseife or Korfu Seife.

Linseed oil, linseed stand oil, tung oil stand oil, dehydrated castor stand oil, rosin glycerol ester, manganese drier. Observe the complete product information (technical data sheet and safety data sheet) during application.

Note: Risk of spontaneous combustion: lay out oil-soaked rags and sanding dust flat to dry or keep them in water, then dispose of them. Full curing takes approx. 4 weeks – treat the surface gently during this time. Observe the safety data sheet.

Is the oil food-safe?
Yes. KREIDEZEIT Worktop Oil has been tested in accordance with LFGB §31 and is suitable for food contact, including wooden chopping boards.

How do I treat a new worktop?
Carry out an initial sanding with P 80–100, remove the dust, then oil twice thinly, allowing it to dry and wiping off the excess between coats. Sand lightly between coats before the second application if required.

How do I care for the top in everyday use?
Re-oil thinly when water no longer beads off as well. Use gently for the first four weeks and protect from standing water wherever possible.

Can I tint the oil?
Yes, with KREIDEZEIT earth and mineral pigments (first grind them with a little oil until free of lumps).
