KREIDEZEIT Lithium Water Glass is a silicifying, hardening mineral binder for the transparent consolidation of plasters indoors and outdoors. It does not impair the vapour permeability of the substrate and does not yellow.

Lithium water glass contains no organic binders, synthetic resins or solvents and is biocide-free. Dilute at least 1:1 with water before application – never apply undiluted. Can be overcoated with all KREIDEZEIT wall paints and plasters (additional priming is usually required).

Properties

  • silicifying, hardening mineral binder
  • good wetting and penetration properties
  • highly vapour-permeable: sd value < 0.01 m at 1:2 dilution (DIN EN ISO 12572)
  • non-yellowing, alkaline (pH 11.5)
  • water- and acid-resistant, non-combustible
  • can be diluted with water in any ratio
  • free from organic binders and solvents, biocide-free
  • vegan

Suitable substrates

Untreated mineral plasters, concrete, stone and masonry. Allow fresh lime plasters to set for at least 8 weeks. Not on distemper or chalking old coatings (remove beforehand).

Use & Application

Substrate preparation: Clean, dry, firm, free from grease and free from bleeding substances. Cover surfaces not to be treated (glass, clinker brick, tiles, metal, wood). Remove sinter skin and binder-rich surface layers; clean mould-affected surfaces with soda solution.

Thinning: At least 1:1 with water, more if required. Never apply undiluted.

Application: Brush, do not roll. To avoid runs, work from the bottom upwards and make sure the product penetrates fully (otherwise shiny patches will appear). Application and drying temperature 5–30 °C.

Frequently asked questions

What do I use lithium water glass for?
For the transparent consolidation of slightly sanding or friable mineral plasters, without reducing their vapour permeability.

Do I need to dilute?
Yes, at least 1:1 with water, more on highly absorbent substrates. Undiluted application leads to glossy, silicified patches.

Can I paint over it afterwards?
Yes, with all KREIDEZEIT wall paints and plasters. As a rule, additionally prime with casein primer or Vega primer.

Is it suitable for clay plaster?
Indoors, yes. Application on clay plaster is not intended for exterior use.
