KREIDEZEIT Marble Lime Putty is a high-quality, wood-fired marble lime that has been matured in pits for at least two years. It serves as a raw material for classic lime paints and lime putty plasters made to your own recipes.

Lime coatings harden by absorbing carbon dioxide from the air to form water-insoluble calcium carbonate and preserve the vapour permeability of the substrate. Application requires craft experience – all information on mixing and application is given as a recommendation. If you are looking for ready-mixed lime paints: KREIDEZEIT Sumpfkalkfarbe, Sumpfkalkfarbe – gefüllt or Kalk Streichputz.

    Properties

    • pit-aged, wood-fired marble lime (raw material)
    • matt, high degree of whiteness, antistatic
    • highly vapour-permeable: sd value < 0.02 m (DIN EN ISO 12572)
    • strongly alkaline (fresh coat pH > 12.5)
    • mineral, odourless once cured
    • suitable for damp rooms
    • can be tinted with KREIDEZEIT earth and mineral pigments

    Suitable substrates

Untreated, absorbent lime, lime-cement, trass-lime and clay plasters as well as old, sound lime coatings, interior and exterior. Cement plasters and concrete for interior use only.

    Application & Processing

Note: Applying traditional lime paints requires applicators experienced with lime. Always check suitability with test coats.

Application: For full opacity on smooth substrates, apply a primer coat and at least three subsequent coats. The best durability is achieved when the first coat is applied to fresh lime plaster that is still damp but already pressure-resistant. On clay plaster, work the first coat (diluted 1:3) into the top layer of clay. Apply with a facade brush using criss-cross strokes; do not use a roller.

Drying: Dry and ready for overcoating after 4–12 hours, depending on conditions.

Façade: Exterior surfaces must be given a water-repellent treatment (e.g. with a 2 % solution of KREIDEZEIT Korfu Seife).

On untreated smooth substrates, one primer coat and at least three subsequent coats. Ideally, apply each coat onto a fresh, just-dried primer coat.
