In surface work, soda is used for gently etching and removing certain old oil and wax coatings (before a harsh paint stripper becomes necessary), for cleaning mineral surfaces affected by mould or algae, and for softening water.

Suitable substrates

Application & Processing
Pre-treating old oil/wax finishes with soda solution: Dissolve 3 heaped tbsp of soda in 1 l of hot water, apply to the surface with a sponge and leave to act. Remove the softened finish, then rinse with clean water. Test beforehand on an inconspicuous area.
Mould/algae cleaning: Apply soda solution to the affected mineral surface, brush off and rinse with water.
Water softening: Add to the mixing or cleaning water as required.

Can I remove old oil paint with soda?
Some old oil and wax coatings will come off with just a hot soda solution. It is worth a try before using a harsh paint stripper.
Does soda help against mould?
Soda solution cleans mineral surfaces affected by mould and algae. The cause of the moisture must also be eliminated; for binding spores, KREIDEZEIT Schimmelknacker is available.
What else can it be used for?
