Impact sound insulation made from natural raw materials

Finely needle-punched fleece made of pure hemp fibre. It is used as an impact sound insulation mat under screed or parquet.

Impact sound underlay decouples a floating floor from the existing subfloor. On timber, the acoustic underlay can be fixed at points with staples to prevent it from slipping. On concrete substrates or other rough floors, this is not necessary. When laying, do not overlap the sheets; always butt them edge to edge.

Cutting the hemp fibre is very difficult because of the strength of the fibre itself. It can be cut with an angle grinder fitted with a metal cutting disc or with hemp shears. The rough surface of the felt bonds firmly and directly to the grippy subfloor, similar to a hook-and-loop fastener. Adhesives or sealants are not required. The stable position of the acoustic fleece ensures long durability; it does not slip and therefore does not wear through.

The fleece is available in 3 thicknesses. The thin version of the hemp fleece is very well suited for use over underfloor heating: the thermal insulation of the 3 mm layer is so low that it has no noticeable effect on the underfloor heating. The thick 10 mm version provides excellent impact sound insulation. The calculated sound insulation value of a build-up with 17 mm fleece is 30 dB.

The hemp impact sound insulation is a product that is only mechanically processed; no chemical additives are required during manufacture or use. Disposal at the end of its service life is also straightforward.

This makes it an impact sound insulation underlay with a carefully considered material composition. Avoiding adhesives and consistently using building-biology solutions promotes a pleasant and balanced indoor climate. Narrow strips matching this acoustic felt are also available, which can be used as edge insulation strips.
