Hemp insulation

Hemp – from field crop to innovation

An ancient cultivated plant is experiencing a revival: hemp. Strong fibres, fine flakes. Against heat, against cold, against noise.

People have been cultivating and using hemp for hundreds of years. It has been prized for the rich, nutritious oil pressed from its seeds and for its long fibres, which are strong and flexible at the same time. These fibres were used in many areas of life until hemp was reduced to its intoxicating effect – and condemned. Only in recent years have people rediscovered the characteristics and advantages of growing hemp. Its cultivation properties in particular speak in its favour: hemp grows extremely fast and stores considerable amounts of CO2 in the process. The crop requires no pesticides or other so-called plant protection products whatsoever, thereby reducing the input of toxins into soil, water and atmosphere.

From a building-technology point of view, too, the strong fibre has many positive properties. As an insulation material – whether for thermal or sound insulation – it is easy to work with and even inhibits mould and pests. At Lehm-Laden, you can buy hemp, for example, as a fluffy loose fill for sound insulation, as stuffing wool against draughts and for fitting doors and windows, as insulation wool for roofs and facades, or processed with clay or lime into insulating plasters, masonry blocks or loose fills. The hemp products in our range contain no synthetic support fibres.
