When a particularly secure bond is required in clay construction, clay adhesive and reinforcing mortar is the material of choice. It reliably bonds board materials to the substrate, securely embeds reinforcing mesh and creates a firm, resilient base for the subsequent plaster build-up.

What is clay adhesive and reinforcing mortar suitable for?
In interior finishing with natural building materials, clay adhesive and reinforcing mortar is used above all where board surfaces need to be securely bonded and prepared for the next plaster build-up. It is an adhesive, reinforcing mortar and bonding layer in one.
Typical applications:
- Bonding Clay building boards
- Bonding Insulation boards, for example with internal insulation
- Pre-filling joints, screws and fixing discs
- Embedding Reinforcement mesh
- full-surface reinforcement on clay building boards
- Comb-notched skim coat as a keyed bonding layer for further clay plasters
Application and drying
The clay adhesive and reinforcing mortar is mixed with water and, depending on the application, applied with a notched trowel, notched float or smoothing trowel. When bonding boards, void-free contact is crucial. Larger irregularities in the substrate should therefore be levelled beforehand with Clay base plaster be evened out.
For Clay building boards the build-up begins with pre-filling joints, screws and fixing points. Once dry, the clay adhesive is applied over the entire surface and the reinforcing mesh is embedded with an overlap of approx. 10 cm at the joints.
On Wood fibre insulation boards the clay adhesive is particularly suitable as a notched-trowel coat. It creates a keyed bonding layer for subsequent coats of clay plaster.

Once dry, the surface can be built up further depending on the desired result:
- Clay plaster for thicker levelling and plaster coats
- Fine clay plaster for finer surfaces ready for painting
- Deco clay facing plaster for coloured, decorative clay surfaces
- Clay finishing compound for particularly smooth surfaces

Yes, clay adhesive and reinforcing mortar can be used on sound, load-bearing clay plaster. It is important that the existing clay plaster is completely dry, firm, clean, free from dust and free from loose areas. With old or sanding clay plasters, the surface should be checked beforehand and, if necessary, consolidated or prepared.
What is clay base plaster?
Clay base plaster is the base coat in the clay plaster system. It serves to level out unevenness, build up a sound, load-bearing plaster layer and prepare the substrate for further coatings. Depending on the desired surface, it is followed by clay finishing plaster, fine clay plaster, clay paint or decorative clay plaster.
