Clay is a building material with a long tradition that is becoming increasingly important in modern buildings. Used in the ceiling, it provides thermal mass and sound insulation and can buffer fluctuations in indoor humidity.
The clay ceiling block from conluto brings these positive properties directly into the timber joist ceiling. In summer, its high heat storage capacity protects against overheating and it acts like passive air conditioning. In winter, it stores heat and releases it into the room as comfortable radiant heat.

Installing the clay ceiling block is quick and easy:
Thanks to its trapezoidal shape, the block can be hung directly between the prepared joists, which have a bevel of approx. 5°. The bearing area and the tapered shape ensure a secure hold.

Recommended accessories:

Edge insulation strips: These are placed between the clay block and the timber joist to prevent the transmission of vibrations and improve acoustics.

Important: The top edge of the clay ceiling block should be at least 1 cm below the top edge of the timber joist so that the block remains load-free. If necessary, blocks can be sawn lengthways to fill narrow gaps.

Build-up of the timber and clay ceiling – from top to bottom

Upwards (floor build-up):
A timber building board is installed over the inserted clay ceiling blocks, providing a stable base for the rest of the floor build-up.
Depending on the desired floor build-up, the following layers can then be added:

• Trittschalldämmung (Thermosafe NF)
• Darauf Holzdiele (Gutshofdiele)

This combination creates a solid yet vapour-permeable build-up that makes the most of the clay's heat-storage capacity.

Downwards (ceiling underside):

• Clay paint: For a uniform, colour-matched surface.

The result is a hygrically active, attractive ceiling surface whose building-physics performance convinces both above and below, with excellent sound insulation, heat storage and moisture regulation.
