Resin oil
Special primer for very heavily absorbent timber – end grain, beam ends, cut edges, indoors and out. Rosin glycerol ester in balsam turpentine; strongly reduces absorbency, for later overcoating with KREIDEZEIT wood glaze and stand-oil paint. Consumption: approx. 0.10–0.20 l/m² per coat (end grain/timber ends, depending on absorbency of the substrate).
KREIDEZEIT Harzöl consists of rosin glycerol ester dissolved in gum turpentine. Rosin is the resin traditionally used in the manufacture of plant-based paints; it is obtained from living pine trees and is one of the renewable raw materials.
Resin oil dries purely physically as the solvent evaporates and greatly reduces absorbency – ideal for end grain, beam ends and cut edges before overcoating with KREIDEZEIT wood glaze or stand oil paint. Can also be used as a raw material for your own recipes.
Properties
- Special primer for very highly absorbent timber (end grain, cut edges)
- greatly reduces absorbency
- highly water-resistant, fast-drying
- dries physically through evaporation of the solvent
- solvent-based, very economical
- transparent, honey-toned, deepens the wood tone
- cobalt-, lead- and barium-free
- vegan
Suitable substrates
Highly absorbent wood, indoors and outdoors – end grain, beam ends, cut edges. Before overcoating with KREIDEZEIT wood glaze or stand oil paint.
Application & Processing
Application: Apply thinly and evenly to the absorbent wood and allow to soak in. The subsequent coat (wood glaze, stand oil paint) is applied after the drying time.
Drying: Quick-drying – dries through evaporation of the gum turpentine.
Tools & cleaning: Paintbrush; clean immediately with gum turpentine.

Frequently asked questions
What is resin oil intended for?
As an absorption-reducing primer for highly absorbent timber (end grain, beam ends, cut edges) prior to treatment with KREIDEZEIT wood glaze or stand oil paint.
How does resin oil dry?
Purely physically, through evaporation of the balsam turpentine oil – which is why it dries quickly.
Can I process resin oil further myself?
Yes, it also serves as a raw material for mixing your own oil/resin recipes.
