Make light clay fills yourself
Light clay is always a mixture of clay and a lightweight aggregate. In the case of lightweight aggregate, it is important that the aggregate copes well with the installation moisture and the correspondingly longer drying time. In addition, the lightweight aggregate should of course contain a lot of air in order to achieve a good insulating effect.
The reed combines both. It rots badly, so it is very resistant to moisture. The air pockets in the stalks ensure a good insulating effect. The fiber is quite stable and intact after mixing with clay. So the lightweight clay is still what you wanted after installation. The best way to determine the individual mixing ratio for your requirements is to carry out a test. It is best to use our good pit clay as clay, it is nice and rich and sticks well. If you are a perfectionist, you can also add the fine hemp shives to the mixture. These are so fine that they can significantly reduce the density.
