Every historic timber structure is unique, and its long-term preservation requires careful repair and a subsequent use that is compatible with the building.
18 case studies present successful investigation, repair and conversion measures for historic timber and timber-framed buildings. As experienced planners, practitioners and scientists, the authors of this volume have dedicated themselves to the preservation of historic timber buildings. Their contributions successfully combine modern building physics, traditional craftsmanship and the concerns of heritage conservation.
Part 1 of the work focuses on current topics in thermal insulation and moisture protection, while Part 2 concentrates on structural issues. About the authors: Dieter Ansorge, freelance architect and civil engineer; since 1976 independent expert for the preservation and renovation of historic buildings and building damage; since 1996 active in the WTA (Wissenschaftlich-Technische Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Bauwerkserhaltung und Denkmalpflege e.V.); seminars and teaching; author of various specialist publications. | Dr.-Ing. Gerd Geburtig, freelance architect, owner of Planungsgruppe Geburtig; long-standing member of the WTA; Head of WTA Germany; seminars and teaching, author of various specialist publications.
My opinion: the building physics of a timber-frame house is special, especially fascinating, not comparable with modern new builds and therefore also requires special consideration. This book helps you understand the physics of your house. This is particularly important if building work is planned or if damage has already occurred. The book conveys specialist knowledge in an understandable way.
