HP 9L is used as a base coat plaster for interior and exterior use. HP 9L can be applied to all types of masonry as well as to rough-formed concrete, pumice concrete and no-fines concrete. On highly absorbent substrates and in very warm weather, the substrate must be sufficiently pre-wetted (do not use suction-reducing primers!). If necessary, the plaster must be moistened with water after application. Concrete ceilings must first be pre-treated with the lime bonding plaster HP 14 using a notched trowel. Once this has hardened sufficiently, HP 9L is sprayed on or applied at a thickness of approx. 10 mm.

HP 9 L is particularly well suited as an external plaster on earth blocks in timber-frame infill, as a base coat on internal insulation or on other particularly soft and flexible substrates. The expanded glass content makes the plaster very flexible, allowing it to accommodate the movements of a soft substrate well.
In timber-frame construction, earth blocks of application class 1A are used as infill; here the earth building standard recommends a maximum layer thickness of 15 mm for the subsequent lime plaster. This is intended because of the load-bearing capacity of the earth blocks; however, HP 9 L is lighter than conventional lime plasters, so the standard plaster thickness of 20 mm for an external plaster can also be achieved and applied on earth blocks.
HP 9 is also very popular for laying lightweight clay blocks or hemp-lime blocks. Here, too, the high flexibility of the plaster is desirable.

HP 9L is a mineral factory-made dry mortar of mortar group P Ic. HP 9L is composed of natural hydraulic lime, quartz sand, mineral lightweight aggregate and a small addition of cellulose. HP9L contains no synthetic binders, is highly vapour-permeable and reduces the risk of fungal growth and mould. The thermal conductivity is 0.2 W/(mK). The lightweight aggregate is a high-quality, high-strength expanded glass that offers good workability and stability. Even after application with a plastering machine, the expanded glass particles remain closed-pore, so the insulating effect is retained.
