Vega primer

KREIDEZEIT Vega Grundierung is a versatile, colourless, transparent primer for subsequent coats and thin-layer plaster applications with KREIDEZEIT casein, lime and clay paints as well as plasters for interior use. The binder is plant casein.

It does not reduce the vapour absorption of the substrate and is therefore particularly suitable for clay and lime plasters. A test area is required beforehand for the transparent consolidation of clay plasters.

Suitable substrates

Untreated, absorbent clay, lime, lime-cement and gypsum plasters, plasterboard, gypsum fibreboard, stone, concrete and absorbent existing coatings prior to renovation. Unsuitable: smooth, non-absorbent and permanently damp substrates.

Application & Processing

Mixing: Add the 250 g bag to 2 litres of cold water while stirring, stir until free of lumps, leave to swell for approx. 30 minutes, stir again and dilute with a further 6 litres of water.

Application: Apply evenly and generously, but only as much as the substrate can absorb. Remove any wet, glossy excess with a cloth before it dries. Minimum application temperature 8 °C. Use mixed primer on the same day.

Drying: Can be overcoated after approx. 8 hours at 20 °C with paints and plasters based on slaked lime putty or casein.

Tools & cleaning: Good-quality natural-bristle façade and ceiling brushes – do not spray or roll. Clean tools immediately with water.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need the primer for?
It evens out substrates with differing absorbency, consolidates slightly powdery surfaces and ensures an even paint finish. Particularly suitable for clay and lime plasters, as it does not reduce vapour permeability.

Vega primer or casein primer – what is the difference?
Both work the same way. Vega primer is vegan (plant casein), while the casein primer uses milk casein.

Can I roll or spray it?
No. Apply with a brush only and wipe off any excess that still looks wet and glossy.

How long does it need to dry?
Around 8 hours at 20 °C, after which you can continue working with KREIDEZEIT paints and plasters.
