Limewash
Thin, semi-opaque lime wash for interior use with the characteristic mottled limewash effect. Made from marble lime putty matured for several years, without synthetic resin binders and without titanium white. Tintable with KREIDEZEIT earth and mineral pigments. Coverage: approx. 0.1 l/m² per coat – 1 l ≈ 10 m², 5 l ≈ 50 m².
KREIDEZEIT Limewash is a thin-bodied, semi-opaque lime putty paint for interior use. Marble lime putty matured for several years, KREIDEZEIT earth and mineral pigments and the patchy application technique create the typical shimmering limewash effect – pastel-like, somewhere between transparent and opaque.
For evenly covering lime coats, use KREIDEZEIT Sumpfkalkfarbe (slaked lime paint). Thanks to its considerable sd-value advantage, its long-lasting alkalinity and its surface that prevents condensation, Limewash is also suitable for damp rooms.

Use & Application
Application: Apply with a wall brush or paint brush using criss-cross strokes. The cloudy effect is created by applying the paint in patches: gradually cover the wall with individual patches that blend into one another. Do not touch up missed areas once the paint has begun to dry, as touch-ups will differ noticeably in colour.
Thinning: Limewash is supplied ready to use.
Tinting: Use KREIDEZEIT earth and mineral pigments, first slurrying them with a little water. Guide values: colour level A approx. 40 g/l, B approx. 20 g/l, C approx. 4 g/l. Use limewash tinted with ultramarine within 48 hours.
Drying: approx. 4–6 hours at 20 °C and 65 % relative humidity.
Tools & cleaning: Immediately after use with water.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the surface look cloudy / iridescent?
Lime paints without titanium white create lively surfaces that shift slightly depending on the incidence of light. Applying the paint with a brush in criss-cross strokes enhances this character; tinted lime paint is not applied with a roller.
Is lime paint suitable for damp rooms?
Yes. The considerable sd-value advantage (see technical data), the long-lasting alkalinity and the surface that prevents condensation make lime paint suitable for bathrooms and damp rooms.
Do I need to prime?
Prime plasters, fillers, drywall boards, concrete and old emulsion paints with KREIDEZEIT Vega Primer or Casein Primer. Do not prime paper-based nonwoven or paper wallpapers.
What can I use to tint lime paint?
KREIDEZEIT earth and mineral pigments: first mix them into a lump-free slurry with a little water, then stir them in. For quantities per colour shade, see Technical Data. Use lime paint tinted with ultramarine within 12 hours.
Can I roll lime paint?
Apply white lime paint wet-on-wet by roller on low-absorbency substrates; otherwise, brush it on. Never roll tinted lime paint. Only apply it with a paint brush.
