Sedge fibre, clay plaster additive
Plant-based reinforcement additive made from sedge fibre for clay plaster and clay mortar. The tough stalks do not curl or felt, bind well into the clay and increase the plaster's resistance to shrinkage cracking. One 10 kg sack is enough for about 1,000 kg of dry clay plaster.

Sedge fibre as a reinforcing additive for clay plaster
Sedge is a purely plant-based additive for clay plaster and clay mortar. The fibre comes from sedges – sour grasses of wet meadows and moors – grown in paludiculture, i.e. cultivation on rewetted land.
Sedge stalks are very tough. They are not as tear-resistant as hemp fibres, but they do not tend to curl or mat and bind well into the clay. This results in uniform reinforcement that improves the plaster's shrinkage cracking behaviour and increases its stability, even with thicker applications.
The sedge is mixed dry into the prepared clay plaster. One 10 kg bag is sufficient as an additive for around 1,000 kg of dry clay plaster. As with any fibre-reinforced clay plaster, it is important that the applied coat dries out thoroughly.
