Internal Insulation with soft wood fiber

In half-timbered or any other old building

The Surface

The right surface preparation is the most important thing if it is to be good. Old but even and evenly absorbent substrates can be treated directly with the clay adhesive and reinforcing mortar

If the surface is level but full of old paint, wallpaper paste or levelling compounds, insulation should not be applied directly.

Surfaces with old coatings must be cleaned. Wallpaper must be removed and adhesive and paint residues must be washed off or removed mechanically. The wall and ceiling primer can then be applied. The primer creates an evenly absorbent and non-slip surface.

Unlevel subsurfaces always need a leveling layer first to create an leveld surface. This is because interior insulation must not have any cavities. This leveling layer is usually made with a clay undercoat plaster.

Internal Insulation

The internal insulation board from Gutex is suitable for a half-timbered house or a house made of masonry. The board can be used in thicknesses of 4 cm and 6 cm without any further calculation. A calculation of the condensation loss (Wufi calculation) is required for the 8 cm insulation board.

The interior insulation made of soft wood fibre boards must be mounted to the surface using the appropriate adhesive mortar. Additional fixing with suitable insulation plugs must also be carried out. The fixing points for Gutex boards are quite small, which saves labour and costs! We recommend consulting an energy advisor.

The advantage of the panels is that they are easy to handle. They can be easily cut to size using a hand-held circular saw. The handy format also makes cutting and offcuts easier.

Clay plaster can then be applied to the insulation. The clay plaster can be applied either as a thick layer or as a thin layer coating. A thick layer would be a clay undercoat plaster with the reinforcing mesh. The thin-layer structure is the clay adhesive and reinforcing mortar with mesh. A finishing render or a fine render can then be used as a finish

The thin-layer clay adhesive and reinforcing mortar has the advantage that less clay has to be moved and drying is correspondingly faster. The disadvantage, however, is the low layer thickness, as we all know, LOTS of clay helps LOTS!

The colored clay filler can also be applied as an alternative finish. This filler requires a smooth subsurface and is then filled in two layers. The advantage of this filler is the thin layer and the fact that it is immediately ready colored. However, it is easier to achieve perfect results with a fine plaster under the filler.
