Sealing against rising damp
Clay moisture barrier is a granulated clay mineral that has very strong swelling properties. When the material swells, it seals itself. The granulated material is used in landscaping, e.g. as landfill sealing. Definitely no moisture should get in here.
This granulated material can also be used as a pond construction material. When building a house, you can use this natural moisture barrier to seal concrete slabs and achieve a dense and well-insulated floor structure with the light clay fill. The clay moisture barrier serves as a natural barrier against rising damp.
On a concrete slab, the installation thickness should be 4 mm. For installation, the moisture barrier is applied to the cleaned concrete floor and spread out to an even thickness with a rake. The moisture barrier is then slightly moistened to activate the adhesive effect of the clay mineral. This ensures that the layer does not slip when the following lightweight clay fill is installed and remains intact over the entire surface.
It can be used very well under rammed earth floors. The recommended layer thickness here is more like 10 cm, similar to pond construction. In civil engineering, the granules can also be used against pressing water. Each situation should be considered carefully and the purpose of use should be checked individually.
The material is also often used as a cover fill in the false floor. A lot of mass is brought into the building in a simple way. The large amount of clay mineral absorbs a lot of moisture and effectively regulates the indoor climate.
