The fine reed mesh from Hiss Reet is a plaster base made of straight-grown reed stalks up to 8 mm in diameter. Around 70 stalks per running metre are bound with galvanised wire at intervals of approx. 10 cm. The mesh is particularly suitable when thinner plaster layers are required and adapts well to sloping ceilings and curves.

    Applications

    • Plaster base for clay, lime and gypsum plaster on timber substrates, indoors and outdoors
    • Spanning timber-frame beams and studs in renovation
    • Plaster base on timber boarding, sloping ceilings and curved surfaces
    • Reinforcement that can be embedded in thicker plaster layers

    Fine or coarse?

The fine mesh has thinner stalks and is more densely bound. It suits thinner plaster layers and tight radii. For thick plaster layers, large spans and permanent formwork, the coarse reed mesh with stronger stalks is the better choice.

    Installation

Unroll the mesh on the timber substrate and fix it with staples, for example galvanised or stainless steel staples from a staple gun. Overlap the joints by about 10 cm. Press the first coat of clay or lime plaster firmly into the mesh so that it fills the gaps between the stalks, then build up the further layers. The rough surface of the stalks and the gaps give the plaster a good grip.

    Frequently asked questions

How many rolls do I need?
One roll covers 5 m². Add about 5 to 10 % for the overlap at the joints.

Can I use the mesh outdoors?
Yes, as a plaster base under exterior plaster on timber. The plaster must be suitable for exterior use and the timber must remain structurally protected from moisture.

What do I fix the mesh with?
With staples from a staple gun, on timber preferably galvanised or stainless steel so that no rust stains form in the plaster.
