Form follows Function – a refined finish for lime plaster and tadelakt

Finishing with soaps and waxes for sheen and protection of fine lime plasters

Making a good surface even better, a beautiful plaster even more beautiful? Soaps or waxes make it possible. High-gloss lime skim-coat surfaces, Tadelakt or similar fine lime finishing plasters such as Stucco and Marmorino receive their superb finish through a surface treatment. Brushed on as an emulsion, warmed after application or polished – depending entirely on the substrate, the desired effect and the product used – these finishing treatments, waxes or soaps, give the fine lime plaster a very special sheen, intensify the colours or create an antique or Mediterranean-looking appearance. In addition, the soaps make the lime plaster water-repellent, as the surface forms a lime soap that makes it water- and dirt-repellent and easy to clean.

All soaps and waxes consist solely of organic and mineral substances. The waxes require no solvents that give off emissions, and no synthetic surfactants are added to the soaps. The finishing coats improve the properties of the wall surface without impairing its vapour permeability. In addition to finishing a fine lime plaster, the soaps and waxes of course also perform many other tasks, such as wood treatment or cleaning.
